Arizona Basketball Academy Camp

The Arizona Basketball Academy hosts a weeklong summer camp that not only focuses on teaching basketball skills but also builds social and life skills.

The Blair Charity Group’s signature program, Arizona Basketball Academy, promotes the social and physical well being of youth ages 9-18. ABA runs week-long camps and a series of monthly clinics across Southern Arizona. ABA goes beyond the court by focusing on leadership and life skills. 2017 is the 17th year that ABA has been offered FREE of charge, serving over 1,000 youth annually!

Our professional coaches strive to create an environment that promotes individual risk taking and personal growth. Our professional coaching staff rivals that of programs costing thousands of dollars to attend.

ABA coaching staff included UofA players: Gabe York, Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Kaleb Tarczewski, Reshea Bristol and Ali Gloyd; and NBA players: Solomon Hill (New Orleans Pelicans) and Derrick Williams (Cleveland Cavaliers).

The camp has a wide range of speakers and activities including:

  • Mayor Bob Walkup: Civil Responsibility
  • Councilman Paul Cunningham: Scholarship Opportunities
  • Jim Rosborough: Attention to Details
  • Joseph Blair: Service to the Community

Since my son, Cameron (who’s the youngest of 5 boys) started school he has struggled fitting in with his peers. His classmates don’t understand his extra energy and many times exclude him from activities.

The Arizona Basketball Academy was a great opportunity for him to challenge himself to meet new kids and to try a new sport. Who knew he would leave with memories of one of the best days of his little life?

Camp ended with a game between The Boom Squad & The Prodigies. The game was tied and the winner would be determined in a final shoot out. The kids had a long day and have given their all… No one scored. It was down to the last two players: A Prodigy player aimed, shot and missed. Cameron from the Boom Squad was up last. If he made this shot he would win the game for the team.

Then….SWOOSH…Cameron scored!!! His teammates and coaches lifted him up in the air and cheered. I’ve never seen my son smile so big.

Cameron met new friends, stayed focused while learning new skills in a new sport, and best of all…he learned to believe in himself. I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Joseph Blair and everyone that was a part of the Arizona Basketball Academy. – Linda and Cameron Lee
